Defensive back Marcus Peters is set to depart Las Vegas after being benched during Sunday’s game. The Las Vegas Raiders are releasing Peters, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Monday, citing a source. Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce confirmed the release of Peters and safety Roderic Teamer, who faced DUI charges on Saturday night.

Peters, aged 30, found himself sidelined during the majority of the Raiders’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs after a notably missed tackle in the second quarter. A brief exchange on the sideline with Coach Pierce added to the intrigue surrounding his absence. Although Pierce attributed it to a “coach’s decision” post-game, he provided no further details.

The decision to part ways with Peters on Monday underscores the challenges he has faced this season, particularly in run defense. The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro will now be on the lookout for a potential fifth team in his career, having previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Ravens.

Throughout the current season, Peters, in his 12 starts for the Raiders, has amassed 43 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception. Notably, he returned that interception for a 75-yard touchdown against the Detroit Lions. Despite these moments of brilliance, Peters’ struggles, especially in run defense, have contributed to the decision to part ways with him.
