Broncos Pre-Season Week 2 Takeaways
On Saturday, the Denver Broncos took on the Chicago Bears, collapsing in the fourth quarter before losing 24-23. Even though the team lost, there were many bright spots in the game, particularly with the rookies.
Welcome to the NFL, Mr. Chubb
Let’s start with the fifth overall pick this year and first score of the game. Bradley Chubb managed to sack Mitchell Trubisky for a safety. Linebackers Brandon Marshall and Todd Davis created the play by getting multiple stops on running back Jordan Howard. The first stop was a four yard loss, with Marshall making the tackle. The second came when Davis froze Howard at the three yard line the following attempt.
Offense Gets Into A Rhythm
The offense was off to a scorching hot start in the first half. Case Keenum was able to get comfortable with the offense and get himself into a groove. Keenum was able to complete four straight passes, moving to the Chicago eight yard line. Unfortunately, Denver had to settle for a field goal from Brandon McManus after a slew of incomplete passes.
“I feel like we started way faster this week,” nose tackle Domata Peko Sr. said. “We got in there really quick and got after them.”
Broncos converted 4-6 on third down during the first half, including 3-4 when having third down and eight yards or fewer. The first drive of the game that was seen for a touchdown occurred in the second quarter. A nine play, 82 yard stampede ended in a rushing TD from Royce Freeman, who powered into the end zone.
